So, on the project introduction the example used was Cinderella.
I am choosing Snow White.
I am choosing Snow White because after seeing the different examples used for Cinderella all these great ideas popped in to my head for what I would do for Snow White, my favorite Disney princess. For the web assignment Storify It I chose to tell Snow White using various forms of social media posts. I really enjoyed putting a modern, more interpretive spin on the classic story. I’m a big fan of retold fairy tales, its actually one of my favorite genres of books. So, I am jumping on the chance to retell one of my favorites.
For my media pieces I’m thinking of putting snow white in more modern terms and how she would fit in to the world.
-Creating a Craig’s List/Wanted Pages add for a new roommate after Snow White moves out.
-Creating a fakebook and fake twitter account of what her life is like.
- Creating the cover for her rock band she’s the lead singer of with Grumpy on drums and Sneezy on bass.
- Recording what her voice mail message would be.
- A sound effects story of a day in the life. Waking up, how she gets to work, at work, etc.
- Song story using various songs to tell her story.
- A la the A Place I’ve Never been assignment, creating an image of her modernized dark forest.
- a five second film that encompasses the essence of Snow White’s story.
I’m a huge fan of reworked fairy tales, too. I love Gregory Maguire!
I think if you stick to the idea of twisting the original plot in modern ways, this will give you a lot to work with. Keep trying to create the unexpected, and you’ll keep our interest.
Also, try to remember the overarching narrative you’re telling (either the original or some reworked version). This will help your pieces hold together, and it also might help you to find ways to focus on different projects.
